El Pósito, old building dated from the 18th century and recently renovated, is a new touristic and exhibition space in which tourists can discover the essence of Linares. The centre gathers the history and cultural heritage of the city. Mining, bullfighting and flamenco have a special place here, showing in a unique way the main representatives of the talent and artistic creativity of the city.
This modern museum is organised in different spaces which have varied uses and functions, being divided in four thematic areas. The first one, History and Heritage, shows a route through the history of the city ?from its beginnings until today? going through those historic events that made Linares one of the main cities in Europe at the end of the 19th century.
The second one corresponds to its Urban Evolution. A multimedia system presents the development of the city since Cástulo, one of the ten most important cities of the Iberian Peninsula during the Roman era.
The third room deals with bullfighting. “Linares, bullfighting legend” is a space which recreates a bullring in a conceptual way. Visitors will get immersed in a 360 grades projection and they will face six rooms dedicated to the history of this tradition and its representatives, such as Palomo Linares. Through a space consecrated to the mining society, visitors will get to the last area named “Linares, the birthplace of the Taranta”. It is a space full of emotions and feelings, where visitors get to know this art, acknowledged by the Unesco as Intangible Cultural Heritage. The visit finishes with a room dedicated to Carmen Linares.
El Pósito also contains an expositive place consecrated to the figure of the singer Raphael. The Raphael Museum recognises the most international singer from Linares for his life on the stages. Chronologically organised, the exhibition shows a collection transferred by the artist: discography, awards, posters, films, suits, graphic documents and memories that visitors could enjoy through the use of new technologies.
El Pósito hosts the Tourist Office and the Linares’ Documentation and Touristic Resources Centre, where the bibliography related to the city can be consulted. Besides, it contains a souvenir shop, an exhibition room and the Local Auditorium, which is attached to this building.
