Linares is a mining city which has exploited its land to obtain lead since its origin in the Iberian-Roman city of Cástulo, one of the most important mining areas in the world during the 19th century.
Apart from its mining heritage and its wide cultural and museum offer, Linares has a great collection of historical monuments which reflect its past: churches, squares, palaces and buildings which show the industrial architecture of the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
