Andrés Segovia’s wish to be buried in his city –to which he left part of his professional and personal belongings– was the birth of the Andrés Segovia foundation, set up through public deed the 8th of May of 1995.
In order to promote culture, music and the study of Segovia’s work, the foundation offers visitors the opportunity to know the international guitarist and composer through his personal memories and furniture as well as private documents: scores, news, programmes of concerts, photos, etc.
This museum is located in a building erected by the Orozco family in the 16th century. It was declared as Historic Monument in 1972 and it has a magnificent façade made of masonry. Its outstanding access door stands out, having over it some twined arches divided by a mullion and the coat of arms of the Orozco family.
A breath-taking square floor plan courtyard with stone columns in Tuscan style can be found indoors. Through it, visitors can access the different rooms, the old olive oil cellar (currently the crypt where Andrés Segovia’s mortal remains lie) and the beautiful courtyard.
