Linares celebrates each year its fair during the last week of August. It always coincides with St Agustín day on 28th August, and finishes on 1st September.
Linares fair is, with no doubt, one of the most important ones in Spain. That is because of the quality of the theatre plays it hosts, the category of the musical performances by national and international artists, the several contests, the sport competitions, the exhibitions and the concerts.
The prestigious National Taranta Contest “Ciudad de Linares” is celebrated during the previous week and gathers in the city the most important flamenco singers. Moreover, the bullfighting fair is one of the most important and known ones in the country. Its bullring has lived memorable afternoons, such as the one of 28th August, 1947 when the matador Manuel Rodríguez “Manolete” was fatally gored.
